New Delhi (8th July): Parliament has approved the 'Base and Other Forms (Amendment) Bill 2019' on Monday to make the 'Aadhaar' voluntary for opening an account and taking a mobile phone SIM. After the discussion, the Rajya Sabha passed this bill in a nutshell. This Bill has been passed in the Lok Sabha on Thursday only last week. Responding to the discussion on the Bill in the Upper House, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the data protected in the base was completely safe. He assured on the demand for creation of data protection law by other members including the Congress that the government will soon present the 'Data Protection Bill'. Its process is running fast.
Prasad said in response to questions raised by the opposition regarding data security during the discussion on the bill, "The former UPA government had implemented 'base' without giving legal basis, hence it was" baseless ". He said that it has been ensured that no one can be deprived of the right to supply essential items like ration in case of no base.
