জায়গা জুড়ে দাঁড়িয়ে আছে সুবিশাল রাজমহল। তাদের ঐতিহ্যমণ্ডিত রথযাত্রার
কদর আজও অমলিন। রথ উপলক্ষে মেলা চলে প্রায় ২০ দিন ব্যাপী। ইতিহাসের ধুলো
ঝেড়ে আসুন দেখে নেওয়া যাক, কী ভাবে উত্তরপ্রদেশ থেকে আসা ব্যবসায়ী
পরিবারের বাংলায় রাজপাট বিস্তারের কাহিনি।
তখন
মুঘলরাজ চলছে। ষষ্ঠদশ শতকে তাঁর সেনা বিভাগের প্রাক্তন উচ্চপদস্থ
কর্মচারী, উত্তরপ্রদেশের বাসিন্দা, ব্রাহ্মণ ব্যবসায়ী জনার্দন উপাধ্যায়
ব্যবসার কাজে নদীপথে এসেছিলেন মহিষাদলের সন্নিকটে গেঁওখালিতে।
নদীমাতৃক বাংলার প্রাকৃতিক শোভায় মুগ্ধ হয়ে এখানে বসবাসের
ইচ্ছা প্রকাশ করেন তিনি। মহিষাদল এলাকার তত্কালীন রাজা কল্যাণ রায়চৌধুরীর
কাছ থেকে মহিষাদলের নিলামি জমিদারি রাজত্ব কিনে নেন। অচিরেই জনার্দন
উপাধ্যায় মহিষাদলধিপতি হন। এখান থেকেই সূত্রপাত মহিষাদল রাজপরিবারের। রাজা
আনন্দলাল উপাধ্যায়ের পুত্রসন্তান ছিল না। তাঁর মৃত্যুর পর রানি জানকী
রাজত্বের দায়িত্ব নেন। এর পর তাঁর জামাতা ছক্কনপ্রসাদ গর্গের ছেলে
গুরুপ্রসাদ গর্গ রাজা হন। সেই থেকে মহিষাদলে গর্গ রাজাদের রাজপাটের
সূত্রপাত।
পরিবারের ক্রমানুসারে তিনটি রাজপ্রাসাদ নির্মাণ হয়। প্রথম
রাজপ্রাসাদটি আজ অবলুপ্ত। রয়েছে রঙ্গিবসান রাজবাড়ি। নবাবি আমলের
সিংহদুয়ার, যা আনুমানিক ১৮৪০ খ্রিস্টাব্দে তৈরি হয়েছিল। অন্যটি ফুলবাগ
রাজবাড়ি যা আনুমানিক ১৯৩৪ সালে তৈরি হয়। তা ছাড়াও রাজবাড়ি চত্বরে গোপাল
জিউর মন্দির ও রামবাগে রামজিউর মন্দির রয়েছে। বর্গিদের আক্রমণের হাত থেকে
রক্ষা পেতে রাজপ্রাসাদের চারপাশে কাটা হয়েছিল সুগভীর পরিখা। তবে সংস্কারের
অভাবে তা আজ প্রায় লুপ্ত। ধর্মপ্রাণ রানি ও গর্গ পরিবার মহিষাদল ঘিরে নানা
মন্দিরের স্থাপনা করেন।
রানি জানকী দেবীর বিশেষ উত্সাহে মহিষাদলে
রথযাত্রা শুরু হয় ১৭৭৬ খ্রিস্টাব্দে। এর আগে, রানি এক দিন স্বপ্নাদেশ পান,
নদীর জলে ভেসে আসছে শালগ্রাম শীলা। তাকে কুলদেবতার আসনে বরণ করে প্রতিষ্ঠা
করেন তিনি। ১৭৭৪ খ্রিস্টাব্দে রানি জানকী দেবী মহিষাদল রাজবাড়ির ঠিক
সামনেই প্রায় ১০০ ফুট উচ্চতার মন্দির তৈরি করে সেখানে প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন
রাজপরিবারের কুলদেবতা মদনগোপাল জিউকে। জনশ্রুতি বলছে, এক দিন একদল প্রজা
এসে রানি জানকীর কাছে আবেদন জানান, শ্রীক্ষেত্র পুরীর মতো মহিষাদলেও
রথযাত্রা চালু করা হোক। প্রজাদের আবেদনে সাড়া দিয়ে মহিষাদলে চালু হল
রথযাত্রা। ১৭৭৬ খ্রিস্টাব্দে রানি জানকি দেবী মহিষাদল রাজবাড়ির রথযাত্রার
প্রচলন করেন। শুধুমাত্র মেদিনীপুর নয়, সমগ্র পশ্চিমবঙ্গের যে ক'টি বিখ্যাত
ও ঐতিহ্যমণ্ডিত রথযাত্রা রয়েছে, মহিষাদল রাজবাড়ির রথযাত্রা তার অন্যতম।
মহিষাদল
রাজবাড়ির রথে, শ্রীজগন্নাথদেব আরোহণ করেন না। আরোহণ করেন মহিষাদল
রাজবাড়ির কুলদেবতা মদনগোপাল জিউ। ঠিক যেমন ভাবে, অধুনা বাংলাদেশের
ধামরাইয়ের রথে আরোহণ করেন, যশোমাধব। আবার পুরী, বারিপদা বা মাহেশের রথের
অধিপতি শ্রীজগন্নাথ।

রানি
জানকিদেবীর আমলের রথ ছিল ২০ চুড়োর। বিপুল জাঁকজমক আর আড়ম্বরে তা পালন
করা হত। দেশদেশান্তর থেকে প্রচুর মানুষের সমাগম হত। উত্সব আর মেলা চলত
প্রায় এক মাস ব্যাপী। এখন আড়াশো বছর আগের সেই আড়ম্বর এখন আর নেই। রথের
মেলার প্রকৃতিও বদলে গিয়েছে আমূল। তবু মহিষাদল রাজবাড়ির রথযাত্রার ঐতিহ্য
আজও অমলিন। মে মাস থেকে শুরু হয়েছে রথ সংস্কারের কাজ। ১৩ চূড়াবিশিষ্ট
কাঠের রথে ৩৪টি চাকা। ১৮৫১ সালে লক্ষ্মণপ্রসাদ গর্গ এই রথটি তৈরি করেন।
একসময় রাজবাড়ির নিজস্ব হাতি ছিল। তার পিঠে বসে লাল নিশান দেখিয়ে পথ
নির্দেশ করতেন মাহুত। পালকি চড়ে আসতেন রাজবাড়ির সদস্যরা, কামান দেগে
সূচনা হত রথযাত্রার। আবার উল্টোরথে গুণ্ডিচাবাড়ি থেকে বিগ্রহ ফিরে এলেও
কামান দাগা হত।
তবে রাজা, রাজত্ব, রাজপাট লুপ্ত হলেও ঐতিহ্য মেনে
রাজ পরিবারের বর্তমান সদস্য হরপ্রসাদ গর্গ পালকি চড়ে রাজবাড়ি থেকে রথের
সামনে যান। সঙ্গে সঙ্গে চলে রাজছত্র, রাজাবাহাদুরের দেহরক্ষী। পালকি থেকে
নামার আগেই ডঙ্কা বাজিয়ে জানান দেওয়া হয় রাজাবাহাদুরের আগমন। তিনিই পালন
করেন মাঙ্গলিক অনুষ্ঠান। তার পর টান দেন রথের রশিতে।
মহিষাদল
রাজবাড়ির রথে জগন্নাথের সঙ্গী বলরাম সুভদ্রা নন, গোপাল জিউ ও রাজ
রাজেশ্বরী। তার পর বিশাল রথের দুধারে হাজারো মানুষের সমাগমে রথের দড়িতে
টান পড়ে। এগিয়ে চলে মহিষাদলের রথ। আর রথের পুণ্যতিথির দিন থেকেই কাঠামোয়
মাটি দেওয়ার কাজ শুরু হয়। শুরু হয়ে যায় বাঙালির আরও এক প্রাণের উত্সব
দুর্গাপূজার প্রস্তুতি।
ইচ্ছে হলেই মহিষাদল রাজপ্রাসাদ ঘুরে দেখে
নিতে পারেন। ফুলবাগ রাজপ্রাসাদের এক তলায় রাজপরিবারের পক্ষ থেকে সংগ্রহশালা
করা হয়েছে। ২০১২-র ৩০ জুলাই এই সংগ্রহশালা জনসাধারণের জন্য খুলে দেওয়া হয়।
রাজপ্রাসাদের পাঁচটি ঘরে সযত্নে রাখা রয়েছে রাজপরিবারের ব্যবহৃত নানা
সামগ্রী, চিঠিপত্র, তৈলচিত্র, নানা ছবি। অন্য ঘরে ঢাল, তরবারি থেকে শুরু
করে রাজসেনাদের নানা অস্ত্র, পোশাক রাখা হয়েছে। প্রতি দিন সকাল ১০টা থেকে
সন্ধ্যা ৬টা পর্যন্ত সংগ্রহশালা খোলা থাকে। প্রবেশমূল্য মাত্র ১০ টাকা। প্রয়োজনীয় তথ্য:
কলকাতা থেকে ডায়মন্ড হারবার রোড ধরে গেলে, ডায়মন্ড হারবারের কয়েক
কিলোমিটার আগে সরিষা। সরিষা থেকে যেতে হবে নূরপুর, যা বর্তমানে রায়চক নামে
খ্যাত। এই রায়চক বা নূরপুর থেকে গঙ্গা পার হয়ে গেঁওখালি। গেঁওখালি থেকে
মহিষাদল।
হাওড়া স্টেশন থেকে দক্ষিণ-পূর্ব রেলপথে মেচেদা স্টেশন।
মেচেদা থেকে হলদিয়াগামী বাসে চড়তে হবে, ভায়া তমলুক। পথে পড়বে মহিষাদল
বাজার। মহিষাদল বাজারে নেমে ডান দিকে গেলে মহিষাদল রাজবাড়ি। আবার কলকাতা
থেকে সরাসরি বাসেও মহিষাদল যাওয়া যেতে পারে। দূরত্ব ১২০ কিমি।
ছ’মাস আগে-পরের দু’টি তালিকা। আর তাতেই বিস্তর ফারাক! প্রধান শিক্ষক ও প্রধান শিক্ষিকার শূন্য পদের তালিকায় বেশ কিছু ক্ষেত্রে অস্বচ্ছতার অভিযোগ উঠেছে। অভিযোগ, গত স্কুল সার্ভিস কমিশন (এসএসসি) জানুয়ারিতে প্রধান শিক্ষক ও শিক্ষিকার শূন্য পদের যে-তালিকা প্রকাশ করেছিল আর সম্প্রতি তারা ওই শূন্য পদের যে-চূড়ান্ত তালিকা প্রকাশ করেছে, সেই দু’টির মধ্যে বেশ কিছু ক্ষেত্রে গরমিল রয়েছে।
কোথাও একই স্কুল কোড বা ভ্যাকেন্সি কোডে দু’টি তালিকায় দু’টি ভিন্ন স্কুলের নাম, কোথাও একই স্কুল কোড বা ভ্যাকেন্সি কোডে একই স্কুলের দু’বার নাম রয়েছে। কোনও কোনও ক্ষেত্রে আবার স্কুল কোড বা ভ্যাকেন্সি কোডই বেমালুম গায়েব হয়ে গিয়েছে! কোথাও আবার নতুন করে স্কুল কোড বা ভ্যাকেন্সি কোডে যুক্ত হয়েছে নতুন স্কুলের নাম।
যেমন জানুয়ারিতে প্রকাশিত তালিকায় ২০০১৫১ কোড নম্বরে ছিল বর্ধমানের হাটকালনা গার্লস হাইস্কুলের নাম। সাম্প্রতিক তালিকায় দেখা যাচ্ছে, ওই স্কুলের নাম আর নেই। তার জায়গায় এসেছে বিল্বেশ্বর হাইস্কুলের নাম। উত্তর দিনাজপুরের ২০০৬১৯ স্কুল কোড বা ভ্যাকেন্সি কোডে ধর্মপুর হাইস্কুলের জায়গায় নতুন তালিকায় চলে এসেছে উত্তর দিনাজপুরেরই ভুইহারা হাইস্কুলের নাম। বেশ কিছু স্কুলের ক্ষেত্রে এই ধরনের গরমিলের অভিযোগ উঠছে। কিছু ক্ষেত্রে দেখা যাচ্ছে, আগের তালিকায় ভ্যাকেন্সি কোড ছিল না, কিন্তু সাম্প্রতিক তালিকায় নতুন করে ভ্যাকেন্সি কোড সংযোজন করে স্কুলের নাম জোড়া হয়েছে। যেমন প্রথম তালিকায় ২০১৮৭২ নম্বরের কোনও স্কুল কোড বা ভ্যাকেন্সি কোড ছিল না। কিন্তু সাম্প্রতিক তালিকায় দেখা যাচ্ছে, ২০১৮৭২ কোড নম্বরে দক্ষিণ ২৪ পরগনার ধপধপি হাইস্কুলের নাম সংযোজন করা হয়েছে। একই ভাবে, প্রথম তালিকায় স্কুল কোড বা ভ্যাকেন্সি কোডে যে-স্কুলের নাম ছিল, পরের তালিকায় সেই স্কুলের নামটাই আর নেই! যেমন ২০৭৮৫ কোড নম্বরে হাওড়ার খরফ হাইস্কুল ছিল প্রথম তালিকায়। সাম্প্রতিক তালিকায় ওই ভ্যাকেন্সি কোড নম্বরে কোনও স্কুলের নামই নেই। স্কুলের নামটাই উধাও হয়ে গিয়েছে। পুরনো তালিকায় ব্যারাকপুরের নারিনদাস বাঙুর মেমোরিয়াল মাল্টিপারপাস স্কুলের কোড নম্বর বা ভ্যাকেন্সি নম্বর ছিল ২০১৫৫২। কিন্তু সাম্প্রতিক তালিকায় ওই কোডে কোনও স্কুলই নেই!
আবার দেখা যাচ্ছে, দু’টি ভিন্ন কোডে রয়েছে একই স্কুলের নাম। যেমন ২০০৮১৩ স্কুল কোড বা ভ্যাকেন্সি কোডে আছে দমদম কুমার আশুতোষ ইনস্টিটিউট ফর বয়েজের নাম। আবার ২০০৮৩৬ কোড নম্বরেও ওই স্কুল হাজির। প্রশ্ন উঠেছে দু’টি কোড নম্বরে একই স্কুলের নাম কেন?
এসএসসি-র চেয়ারম্যান সৌমিত্র সরকার অবশ্য দাবি করছেন, সব নিয়ম মেনে স্বচ্ছতার সঙ্গেই স্কুলের প্রধান শিক্ষক ও প্রধান শিক্ষিকা নিয়োগের প্রক্রিয়া চলছে। প্রধান শিক্ষক ও শিক্ষিকার শূন্য পদ ছিল ২২৪৫টি। তবে ডাকা হয়েছে ১৮৬৪ জনকে। ‘‘নানা কারণে শূন্য পদের থেকে কম প্রার্থীকে ডাকা হয়েছে। মামলার জন্য কোনও স্কুলের নাম বাদ গিয়েছে, কোনও স্কুলে প্রধান শিক্ষক পরে যোগ দেওয়ায় সেই স্কুলের নাম বাদ গিয়েছে,’’ বলেন সৌমিত্রবাবু।
শিক্ষক সংগঠনগুলি এই যুক্তি মানতে রাজি নয়। কলেজিয়াম অব অ্যাসিস্ট্যান্ট হেডমাস্টার্স অ্যান্ড অ্যাসিস্ট্যান্ট হেডমিস্ট্রেসেস-এর সম্পাদক সৌদীপ্ত দাস বলেন ‘‘জানুয়ারির তালিকায় যে-স্কুলের নাম ছিল, চূড়ান্ত তালিকায় সে কেন বাদ গেল, কেন একই ভ্যাকেন্সি কোডে অন্য স্কুলের নাম চলে এল, কেনই বা দু’টি ভ্যাকেন্সি কোডে একই স্কুলের নাম এল? ব্যাখ্যা মিলছে না।’’
